About

Hi! I’m Emma, a writer, editor, and multimedia storyteller based in the Washington D.C. metro area. At Plate Less Ordinary, I share stories about food, culture, and technology. I hope that you learn something while you’re here or come away with a new perspective. And leave hungry!

I believe that variety is the spice of life and that moderation is key. In a world that prioritizes quantity, I focus more on quality. I also think that you owe it to yourself to eat well, even as a busy working professional living in this uncertain world.

Please get vaccinated and keep wearing a mask. You could save a life.

You can often find me in the kitchen, whipping up favorite meals or testing new recipes. The birth of my first kid in 2020 pushed me to further explore our family’s culinary cultural roots. That includes assorted Ashkenazi and Asian classics—a wonderful mix when a Jewish New Yorker marries the Philly-bred son of Taiwanese-born immigrants. When I’m not cooking or writing, you might find me dancing (former Zumba teacher and b-girl), walking my rescue poodle mixes, or falling down an Internet rabbit hole researching vintage trends.

I’ve also been fortunate to visit some pretty cool places, and in particular, I adore Hawaii. I always try to bring home tastes of my travels to recreate in my home kitchen. (These days, my travel plans are on hold because of the ongoing pandemic. So more time to explore the world around me that sometimes goes unnoticed.)
